Off the field and out of the Box, Introducing: The Washed-Up Gamer!

I am The Washed-Up Gamer!

I am a former FBS College Football player, FCS National Champion Coach, and DII College Football Assistant Coach, who has also worked plenty of office jobs along my path. I am getting out of the world of coaching. That career is fueled by passion, and because of that, there are unsustainable hours and a non-existent work-life balance, which is why I’m trying to hold onto something I’m passionate about by starting this blog. Everything I’ve been through and worked on throughout my career has gotten me to this point, where I currently have some free time to try to get this blog off the ground. All these experiences have had one thing in common throughout, video games. I plan to leverage this unique background into a different perspective when reviewing games, looking into trends, and creating engaging content for all my readers.

Over the years, I have noticed that there is still such a large rift between gaming and sports. It’s not the old cliche of the “nerds vs jocks” but it seems like there is a new gulf between gamers who enjoy sports, sports video games, and the adjacent vs. gamers who play RPGs, TCGs, and TTRPGs. I know there is such a huge spectrum between and past those two points, and I want to be a voice that shows some of the overlap in the communities.

I am a huge college football fan with my allegiances being to my Alma Mater, The University of Connecticut, where I played my college ball, and I also root for The University of North Carolina, by way of my spouse. I am a huge proponent of the new playoff system and will die on the hill that they need to expand to 16 teams and give every conference champion an auto bid. One thing you can expect is an ongoing series of me comparing the realities of college football, both as a player and as a coach, and how EA College Football 25 represents those realities both on the field and off the field.

I will play video games of all types, but my main interests have always been sports games (go figure), RPGs, and Action Adventure games. So those are what you can expect to see the most, sprinkled in with a healthy serving of Souls and Souls-like games as well. Throughout this blog, I plan to dive into my bag of knowledge that I’ve gained over my years working in college athletics and spin it into my love for video games. If any of this sounds exciting to you, then I hope you’ll join me on this journey as I figure it all out and try to make something special!

This is my first experience with blogging and writing about video games, so I fully expect there to be a lot of growing pains as I figure out the best way for me to do this thing while also balancing all the responsibilities of being a good husband, father, and working full time. I have a lot of plans for content that probably won’t come to fruition and some that will. I have a ton to learn about creating content and writing, I mean, it took me nearly 10 days since I decided to start this blog to write this first post. I appreciate everyone who gives any of my work a read, and I appreciate any feedback!
